1. Agreeing to these terms
Using this site means you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use it. Mechanical Design Nexus is a student design community at CEDAT, Makerere University, referred to below as MDN.
2. Who can hold an account
You must be 18 or older. The details you register with must be accurate and kept current.
3. Your account
- Keep your password to yourself. Anything done through your account is treated as done by you.
- Tell us at mec.designnexus@gmail.com as soon as you suspect someone else has access.
- Do not share accounts, impersonate anyone, or register accounts automatically.
4. Acceptable use
Do not:
- Break the law or infringe anyone's rights.
- Post anything unlawful, defamatory, harassing, discriminatory or obscene.
- Upload malware or anything intended to disrupt the site.
- Scrape the site, reverse engineer it, or extract source beyond what the API offers.
- Send unsolicited commercial messages through it.
- Submit work you do not own or have permission to share.
The code of conduct covers behaviour in more detail.
5. Work you submit
Your designs, articles and comments stay yours. By posting them you give MDN a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host and display them, and to make the technical copies a website needs, such as thumbnails and previews. You are responsible for having the right to post what you post. Delete your content and the licence ends, except for copies already distributed.
6. Sessions and attendance
Sessions run in Room 3034, CEDAT New Building, on Thursdays from 14:00 to 16:00. Attendance is recorded and feeds leaderboard standing, certificates and internal reporting. We may cancel or move a session, and will tell registered members when we do.
7. Intellectual property
MDN branding, original written content and the codebase belong to MDN unless stated otherwise. Do not use our marks without written permission. Third-party software remains under its own licence.
8. Fees
The site is free to MDN members. If a workshop or certification ever carries a fee, we will say so plainly before you pay.
9. Ending your account
You can delete your account from your dashboard at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or abuses the site. Sections 5, 7, 10, 11 and 13 continue to apply afterwards.
10. What we do not promise
The site is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, faultless or secure, and to the extent the law allows we exclude implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
11. Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, MDN and its committee members are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost profits or data, arising from your use of the site. Total liability will not exceed UGX 500,000 or what you paid us in the previous 12 months, whichever is greater.
12. Your responsibility
If a claim is brought against MDN because of what you posted or how you used the site, you cover the resulting costs.
13. Governing law
Ugandan law governs these terms, and disputes go to the courts of Kampala. If you use the site from elsewhere, complying with your local law is your responsibility.
14. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes are announced by email and on the site at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the site afterwards means you accept them.
