1. The commitment
MDN is open to any student at CEDAT who wants to learn design, whatever their background, identity, academic level or experience. Everyone here was a beginner once, and the person asking a basic question is the reason this club exists. This code applies in Room 3034, CEDAT New Building and in every MDN space online.
2. What good looks like
- Review the work, not the person. Say what is wrong with the model and why.
- Take criticism the way you would take it from a design lead. It is about the drawing.
- Credit other people's work and cite what you used.
- Help someone newer than you. Explaining a mate scheme is the fastest way to find out whether you actually understand it.
3. What gets you removed
- Harassment, intimidation or discrimination of any kind.
- Sexual language, imagery or unwanted advances.
- Personal attacks, trolling or deliberate disruption.
- Publishing someone's private information without their permission.
- Passing off another person's design or writing as your own.
- Using MDN materials commercially without approval.
- Anything you would not do in front of a client.
4. Where this applies
- This site: articles, comments, polls, submissions and the forum.
- Sessions in Room 3034, CEDAT New Building and any other MDN event.
- Official MDN channels on WhatsApp and email, and MDN social accounts.
- Anywhere you are visibly representing MDN.
5. Academic integrity
MDN sits inside Makerere University and follows its academic integrity rules. Submit your own work. Name your collaborators. Attribute anything you adapted, including CAD libraries, tutorials and published research. Repeated plagiarism goes to CEDAT faculty.
6. Reporting
Email mec.designnexus@gmail.com, or speak to any committee member in person. Reports go to the conduct committee. We will not discuss your report with the person you reported without telling you first.
7. What happens next
- Warning. A written note explaining what broke the code and what to correct.
- Temporary suspension. Removal from MDN spaces for a stated period.
- Permanent removal. From every MDN space, without reinstatement.
- Escalation. Referral to CEDAT faculty, or to the authorities where the law requires it.
At least two committee members decide. You may appeal once, in writing, within 14 days.
8. Leadership
Committee members and session facilitators enforce this code. They may remove or edit contributions that break it, and may suspend or remove members.
9. Attribution
Adapted from the Contributor Covenant, version 2.1, with additions for engineering education and the Makerere University context.
